Understanding Illinois PT CEU RequirementsÂ
The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) manages the license renewals for all physical therapy professionals across the state. In Illinois, continuing education is measured in CE Hours and must be completed by September 30th of even-numbered years (for PTs) or odd-numbered years (for PTAs).
What Counts for Illinois PT CEU Approval?
Illinois enforces rigid pre-approval rules for its CE sponsors and requires vendors to hold active, state-issued sponsor licenses or explicit approval through authorized entities like the IPTA.

Please note that our courses are NOT currently approved for CE credit in the State of Illinois. Illinois practitioners may take our clinical nutrition courses for personal clinical development or cash-practice advancement, but they will not count toward your mandatory IDFPR hourly renewal requirements.
The Biennial Hourly Breakdown
For reference, Illinois physical therapy regulations require:
- Physical Therapists (PT): 40 CE hours every two years (Due Sept 30 of even years).
- Physical Therapist Assistants (PTA): 20 CE hours every two years (Due Sept 30 of odd years).
- Mandatory Subjects: Both PTs and PTAs must complete 3 hours of Ethics/Jurisprudence, 1 hour of Sexual Harassment Prevention, and 1 hour of Implicit Bias Awareness training. Alternate cycles require Cultural Competency and Alzheimer's Disease training.
