Physical Therapy CEU Approval by State

Physical Therapy CEU Approval by State

Understanding how CEU courses are accepted across different states

Continuing education approval is one of the most important factors when selecting CEU courses. While many courses are widely accepted, each state has its own licensing board and approval process, which determines whether a course meets requirements for license renewal and aligns with physical therapy CEU approval by state guidelines.

This page provides an overview of how CEU approval works across states and how to verify whether a course meets your specific requirements, including physical therapy continuing education approval considerations.

How CEU Approval Works

CEU approval is determined at the state level. Some states approve specific providers, while others accept courses from organizations that meet certain criteria. In many cases, courses approved in one state may be accepted in others through reciprocity, but this is not guaranteed and varies across PT CEU accreditation states.

Because of this, clinicians should always verify acceptance through their state board or approved provider before enrolling in a course and confirming PT license CEU approval.

State Acceptance Overview

As of January 2026, courses have reciprocal acceptance in 44 states. The states, denoted with an asterisk, require enrollees to submit additional information for acceptance (usually a form listing what the course objectives are, additional information on the speaker, etc.). Our team is happy to help you with any additional information that your state board requests related to physical therapist continuing education state approval.
