The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) regulates the ongoing competence of healthcare providers. In Michigan, continuing education is tracked as Professional Development Requirement (PDR) Credits. Licenses are renewed on a biennial (two-year) cycle.

What Counts for Michigan PT CEU Approval? Michigan grants PDR credits for programs approved by other state physical therapy boards. Our state-board approved courses translate directly at a rate of 1 instructional hour = 1 PDR credit (Activity Code 1: Approved Education Program).
Michigan enforces a 20-credit maximum on traditional CE courses per cycle, which perfectly accommodates our 12-credit curriculum. Furthermore, Michigan law dictates that no more than 12 PDR credits can be earned within a single 24-hour period.
The Biennial Credit Breakdown
- Physical Therapists (PT) & Assistants (PTA): 24 PDR credits total every two years.
- CE Course Cap: A maximum of 20 PDR credits can come from traditional continuing education courses (the remaining 4 must come from other professional activity categories).
- Mandatory Subjects: Licensees must complete at least 1 PDR credit in Pain and Symptom Management. Additionally, LARA mandates Implicit Bias Training (1 hour per year of the cycle, totaling 2 hours) which must follow distinct interactive rules.
